Bureau of the Fiscal Service

BFS tracks America’s public debt. Tens of millions of Americans own savings bonds, purchased through this agency. The mission of the BFS is to provide central payment services to federal program agencies, operate the federal government's collections and deposit systems, provide government-wide accounting services, and collect delinquent debt. Employees oversee a daily cash flow of about $205 billion. Annually, BFS disburses more than 1.3 billion payments via Social Security and Veterans' Benefit payments.
